West Bromwich, England (SportsNetwork.com) - The survival hopes of West Bromwich have taken a hit as captain Chris Brunt was ruled out for up to six weeks with a knee injury on Wednesday.

Brunt had to be withdrawn midway through the second half of his team's 3-0 defeat to Manchester United last Saturday. And after undergoing tests, it was confirmed that the Northern Ireland midfielder had suffered damage to his medial knee ligament.

The injury means that Brunt will miss a significant amount of time during West Brom's fight against relegation as the Baggies sit above the bottom three on goal difference.

Brunt, 29, has appeared in 22 league matches for West Brom this season, scoring two goals with five assists.
