The Browns have signed rookie cornerback Justin Gilbert, one of their first-round draft picks, to a four-year, $12.8 million contract.

Cleveland selected Gilbert with the No. 8 overall pick in May's draft. He's expected to start on the opposite side from Pro Bowl cornerback Joe Haden.

Gilbert's deal was announced Wednesday as the former Oklahoma State standout and other rookies, including quarterback Johnny Manziel, reported for training camp. The Browns will have their first practice Saturday.

Gilbert impressed the Browns coaches during spring workouts. The 6-foot, 202-pounder said he was looking forward to putting on pads in training camp. First-year Browns coach Mike Pettine likes Gilbert's size and his ability to jam receivers at the line of scrimmage.

Gilbert will compete in camp with Buster Skrine for a starting job.
