Colin Kaepernick still appears to be in limbo as the April 1 deadline for his $11.9 million guaranteed salary for 2016 approaches. But it appears the Denver Broncos are the most aggressive in trying to land the athletic quarterback

According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the defending champs are in the lead for Kaepernick.

The fifth-year quarterback regressed badly last season, throwing for 1,615 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions. The team went 2-6 with him starting. He's rehabbing from surgeries on his left shoulder, right thumb and left knee.

The Broncos are in desperate need for depth at quarterback after Peyton Manning retired and Brock Osweiler opted to move on to the Texans. Denver currently has Mark Sanchez and little-used Trevor Siemian on the roster.
