The Brewers have signed left-handed pitcher Franklin Morales to a minor-league contract, the team announced Saturday.

The 30-year-old Morales has pitched nine seasons in the major leagues for Colorado, Boston and Kansas City. He went 4-2 with a 3.18 ERA in 67 relief appearances last regular season for the Royals.

"He'll be in competition for a bullpen spot," manager Craig Counsell said. "He's experienced, has been successful so I think it gives us a wider choice of options. I think he and Blaine (Boyer) are probably coming from similar places. We see him as a reliever. It just gives up depth and a wider arrange of choices."

Morales is 23-29 with a 4.52 ERA in 486 career innings. He has started 47 games, including 22 with the Rockies in 2014.
