Braves sign Pierzynski, Outman to 1-year deals

Atlanta, GA ( - The Atlanta Braves signed veteran catcher A.J. Pierzynski and pitcher Josh Outman to one-year contracts on Wednesday.

Pierzynski, 38, split 2014 with the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals, finishing the season with a .251 batting average, five homers and 37 RBI in a combined 102 games.

The two-time All-Star is a career .281 hitter with 368 doubles, 177 homers and 837 RBI over 1,865 games. He has also played for the Minnesota Twins, San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers.

Outman was 4-0 with a 3.28 ERA in 31 relief appearances last season for the Cleveland Indians, who traded him to the New York Yankees in late August. He didn't allow a run in nine games for the Yankees.

The 30-year-old lefty has a career record of 16-11 with a 4.43 ERA in 161 games (32 starts) for the Oakland Athletics, Colorado Rockies, Indians and Yankees.
