ATLANTA (Reuters) - The Atlanta Braves have placed highly rated rookie outfielder Jason Heyward on the 15-day disabled list because of an injured thumb, the team said on its website (http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com) on Monday.
Heyward originally sustained the injury on May 14 but had played through the pain before sitting out the last three games.
The 20-year-old homered on his Major League debut and enjoyed a strong start to the season before his nagging injury took his batting average down to .251 with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs.
Heyward is currently on target to be voted into the July 13 All-Star Game by fans.
