Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman is expected to miss an extended period of time after getting hit by a pitch during Wednesdays 8-4 win over the Blue Jays.
Its a huge loss for Atlanta, which has won three straight games over the Jays to move into second place in the NL East. Freeman is tied for the major-league lead with 14 homers and is slashing .341/.461/.748 with 11 doubles and 25 RBI in 37 games this season.
The hit-by-pitch was one of several tense moments in Wednesdays game, which also included an alleged homophobic slur from Toronto center fielder Kevin Pillar ( he has issued an apology) and another bat flip from Jose Bautista. Both of those situations resulting in the benches emptying.
The teams wrap up their four-game series tonight in Atlanta, meaning there could be more fireworks in the finale.
