Gregory Bourdy of France had rounds of 67 and 68 at Walton Heath on Monday to lead 13 players who earned spots in the U.S. Open at a qualifier.

Three-time major champion Padraig Harrington seemed certain to join them until a bogey-bogey finish left him one shot shy of a playoff.

Bourdy was joined by a pair of Frenchmen, Romain Wattel and Gary Stal. Also getting in was Matteo Manassero, the 23-year-old Italian who has fallen to No. 887 in the world.

Five players were left for the final three spots. In a playoff, Max Kieffer holed a bunker shot on the first hole, Soren Hansen made birdie on the second hole and Sebastian Soderberg got the final spot on the fifth extra hole.

The U.S. Open is June 16-19 at Oakmont.
