Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will miss this summer's European Championships after suffering a dislocated kneecap in training, the club has confirmed.

The 25-year-old will no longer be available for selection for Germany as Joachim Low's side looks to build on its 2014 World Cup win with victory at Euro 2016 in France.

Gundogan's spell on the sidelines means he will also miss the DFB-Pokal final between Bayern Munich and Dortmund on May 21 at the Olympiastadion.

Dortmund confirmed the news via Twitter, writing: "Season off! @Guendogan8's kneecap is dislocated in team training."

He will also be absent for the final two Bundesliga games against Frankfurt and Cologne as Dortmund looks set to finish second behind Bayern.

Gundogan has made 36 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund so far this season, scoring two goals and registering four assists.
