BLACKSBURG, Va. – Detrick Bonner returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown and Trey Edmunds ran for two scores as Virginia Tech defeated Western Carolina 45-3 Saturday.
Bonner snagged a deflected pass and sprinted 37 yards to give the Hokies (1-1) a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
He returned his second pick 35 yards to the Hokies' 46 late in the half, but Virginia Tech's Logan Thomas was intercepted in the end zone for the second time to end the threat. By then it was 21-0 after the first of Edmunds' 1-yard TDs and a 19-yard scoring pass from Thomas to D.J. Coles.
Chris Mangus had a 76-yard touchdown run in the third period.
The FCS Catamounts (0-2) have lost 12 straight and 28 in a row to FBS teams.
