Carmel, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - The BMW Championship will return to Crooked Stick Golf Club in 2016, tournament officials announced on Tuesday.
The 2016 staging will mark the second trip to Crooked Stick for the third event in the FedExCup playoff series. Rory McIlroy won the 2012 BMW Championship at the venue, fending off Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott.
"We are thrilled to be bringing the BMW Championship back to Crooked Stick Golf Club, where we had such a successful event in 2012 thanks in large part to the tremendous community and business support in the market," said Vince Pellegrino, senior vice president of tournaments for the Western Golf Association, which conducts the event.
The 2014 BMW Championship concluded on Sunday when Billy Horschel atoned for a horrible second shot on the 72nd hole the week prior, with a two-stroke victory at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo.
The 2015 event will be staged at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill.
Crooked Stick really landed on the map when John Daly won the PGA Championship there in 1991. The course has also hosted several USGA events, including the 1993 U.S. Women's Open and 2009 U.S. Senior Open, as well as the 2005 Solheim Cup.
