OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) First baseman Justin Smoak has agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $8.25 million with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The contract announced by the team on Saturday will pay the 29-year-old Smoak $4.125 million per season in the first two years of the deal, with a $6 million option in 2019.

Smoak is batting .234 with nine home runs and 23 runs batted in this season.

In seven major league seasons, he's had a .225 batting average with 101 home runs, 316 RBIs and a .310 on-base percentage.

The Blue Jays are in Oakland for a series with the Athletics.
