Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Columbus Blue Jackets placed defenseman James Wisniewski on injured reserve Friday due to an upper-body injury.

The move is retroactive to Dec. 6, the same day he suffered the setback in a game against the Minnesota Wild.

The 29-year-old has posted two goals and 16 assists in 28 games for the Jackets this season.

Columbus also recalled goaltender Jeremy Smith on an emergency basis from Springfield of the American Hockey league to sub for Curtis McElhinney, who is day-to-day with a lower-body injury sustained in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Rangers.

Smith went 11-3-1 with a 2.58 goals-against average in 15 games for the Falcons this year.
