Laurent Blanc stepped down as coach of France on Saturday, ending his tenure after two years in charge.

The 46-year-old Blanc took over for Raymond Domenech after the 2010 World Cup, and guided France to the quarterfinals of Euro 2012.

His contract expired Saturday, and no agreement was reached to extend his deal another two years through the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

"After some reflection, Laurent Blanc got in touch with Noel Le Graet, the president of the FFF (French Football Federation), to communicate his decision not to seek the renewal of his contract," France said in a statement.
