Orchard Park, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The Buffalo Bills released offensive lineman Colin Brown on Tuesday, one week after he had been demoted from a starting role.

Brown opened up Buffalo's first five games of 2013 at left guard before being replaced by Doug Legursky for Sunday's 27-24 overtime loss to Cincinnati.

A fifth-round pick of Kansas City in the 2009 draft, Brown had been with the Bills since 2010 and appeared in 18 games with seven starts during his tenure with the team.

Buffalo promoted offensive lineman Mark Asper from the practice squad to replace Brown on the active roster.

Asper originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft choice of Buffalo in 2012 but did not survive final cuts. The Oregon product had stints with Minnesota and Jacksonville last season before being re-signed by the Bills on Sept. 1.
