New York, NY – Baylor was a unanimous No. 1 in the Associated to-wire atop the basketball rankings for the whole season.
The Lady Bears went 34-0 and captured the Big 12 championship, then garnered all 39 first-place votes for 975 points in the poll announced Monday. One of the 40 voters was absent, the AP said.
Baylor will be the top overall seed when the bracket is announced for the NCAA women's tournament Monday night.
Among the eight teams that have spent an entire season as No. 1, Connecticut has done it four times, the AP said.
Also Monday, Princeton entered the poll at No. 24 -- the first Ivy League team ever ranked in the AP poll.
Baylor, which finished in the No. 1 spot for the first time, was followed by Stanford, UConn, Notre Dame, Maryland, Duke, Delaware, Miami, Tennessee and Green Bay to round out the top 10.
Penn State, Kentucky, Purdue, St. John's and Georgia Tech came in at 10-15, while Ohio State, Nebraska, Georgetown, Louisville and Georgia rounded out the top 20.
St. Bonaventure, Texas A&M, Rutgers, Princeton and South Carolina finished 21-25. Princeton and South Carolina were new to the poll.
