Miami's Shane Battier and Denver coach George Karl have won awards from the Pro Basketball Writers Association for their excellence on the court and with the media.

Battier was voted the winner of the Magic Johnson Award, chosen from a list of 12 players. Karl was chosen as the winner Tuesday of the Rudy Tomjanovich award from a field of seven nominees.

Also, the public relations staff of the Indiana Pacers became the first two-time winner of the Brian McIntyre Award, which recognizes an NBA PR staff for its professionalism and excellence worthy of acclaim.

The J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, also presented by the PBWA and given to a player for his community efforts, will be announced later as part of the NBA's postseason awards schedule.
