Rome, Italy – Italy will have a decision to make regarding the participation of defender Andrea Barzagli at Euro 2012 after he suffered a calf injury.
The Juventus defender played the full 90 minutes in a 3-0 friendly defeat against Russia on Friday, but he picked up a calf problem that could keep him on the sidelines for up to three weeks.
If manager Cesare Prandelli decides to keep the 31-year-old on the roster, he likely would be unavailable until the semifinal round of the competition.
Barzagli has earned 29 caps for the Azzurri and he appeared in 38 games for Juventus this past season.
However, Prandelli may opt to replace him with Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, who was one of the last players cut from Italy's 23-man Euro 2012 roster.
