Wimbledon semifinalist Marion Bartoli was a set second-round winner Wednesday at the $618,000 New Haven Open tennis event, a final U.S. Open tuneup.

The fourth-seeded Bartoli, of France, snuck past Czech veteran Klara Zakopalova 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 on the hardcourts at Yale University. Bartoli will face another Czech, qualifier Petra Cetkovska, in Thursday's quarterfinals.

Second seed Li Na of China defeated Maria Kirilenko of Russia 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). She needed only one hour, 48 minutes to secure the win.

Li is the reigning French Open champion and Australian Open runner-up

Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues got past Russian Elena Vesnina 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) to set up a quarterfinal bout with third-seeded French Open runner-up Francesca Schiavone of Italy.

Eighth-seeded Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova downed Roberta Vinci of Italy, 6-2, 6-4. The Russian will face Li in Thursday's quarterfinal round.

The 2011 New Haven titlist will earn $103,000.
