The sixth-seeded German Barthel downed Svitolina 6-4, 6-3. Barthel saved 3- of-6 break points.
Barthel won this event in 2012.
This is the final tune-up for the Australian Open. The first Grand Slam event of 2014 is set to get underway Jan. 13 in Melbourne.
