Normal, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Illinois State's season-opening quarterback Jared Barnett has left the football program, coach Brock Spack announced Tuesday.

Barnett, a junior transfer from Iowa State, started the first two games and played in one more game for the 2-3 Redbirds. He left the program for personal reasons, Spack said.

"We wish Jared the best in the future and will help him in any way we can," Spack said in a statement.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Barnett, from Garland, Texas, completed 27-of-48 passes for 415 yards and three touchdowns with five interceptions.

Redshirt freshman Blake Winkler has replaced Barnett as the team's starting quarterback.

While at Iowa State, Barnett led the Cyclones to a double-overtime win over then-No. 2 Oklahoma State in 2011.
