Barcelona, Spain – Barcelona midfielder Ibrahim Afellay will miss the next six months after undergoing an operation on his knee, the club confirmed on Monday.
The 25-year-old tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during training on September 22, and underwent reconstructive surgery on Monday to repair the problem.
Afellay signed with Barcelona from PSV Eindhoven in January and went on to make 16 appearances for the Spanish giants over the second half of last season.
A hamstring injury hampered the Dutch international at the start of this campaign, limiting him to one substitute appearance before his knee injury.
