Aston Villa has confirmed that defender Nathan Baker signed a new three-year contract with the club.

Baker was a member of Villa's system as a youth, and he broke into the first- team picture in 2011.

Since that time, the 22-year-old has become an important piece for the Villains, who narrowly avoided relegation this past season.

Baker started 25 games for Paul Lambert's side last term, and he is looking forward to continuing his development.

"I'm really happy to have signed and for my future to be with Villa," he told the club's official website.

"It's an exciting time and, because I've come through the academy as well, it's something that's really special to me, something that hopefully I can use as an inspiration in the future."
