Aston Villa midfielder Jermaine Jenas will be sidelined six months, possibly ruling him out for the remainder of the season, after undergoing surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Jenas, 28, was injured last weekend in a 1-0 loss to Manchester United and had surgery Wednesday. Villa announced Thursday the England international, on loan from Tottenham, will be out for the extended spell.

"This is tragic for Jermaine and, of course, we are all deeply disappointed for him," said Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish.

Aston Villa also lost goalkeeper Shay Given for a month after he sustained a hamstring injury against United.

Villa, which is ninth in the standings, visits Bolton on Saturday.
