Assuncao joins Deportivo

Madrid, Spain – Deportivo announced Tuesday that it has signed Paulo Assuncao to aid in the club's fight against relegation.

The 32-year-old midfielder brings a wealth of experience to the Riazor, joining Deportivo following stints with Atletico Madrid and AEK Athens.

"I'm very pleased, happy and grateful to come to a club as great as Depor and to be given the opportunity to return to Spanish football," Assuncao said via the club's official website.

Assuncao passed a medical and put pen-to-paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal with an option for another year.

Deportivo sits second from bottom in La Liga with 15 points in 18 games.
