A's put Colon, Cowgill on DL

The Oakland Athletics have placed pitcher Bartolo Colon and outfielder Collin Cowgill on the 15-day disabled list.

Colon lasted just two innings in his last start last Sunday against San Diego before leaving with a strained right oblique.

He is 6-7 with a 4.22 ERA in 15 starts this season and is eligible to be reinstated July 3.

Cowgill, who is dealing with a sprained left ankle, is hitting .271 with one homer and nine RBI in 32 games this year. He is eligible to be reinstated July 8.

The A's also recalled pitcher Tyson Ross and infielder Brandon Hicks from Triple-A Sacramento.

Ross will start Saturday's game against the Giants. He enters the contest with a 2-6 mark and a 6.11 ERA in 10 starts with Oakland this year.

Hicks was batting .272 with 13 home runs and 48 RBI in 65 games for Sacramento.
