Arsenal reportedly activate Jamie Vardy's release clause with Leicester

Arsenal fans have long craved a world-class striker since the days of Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie, and they might have just found their man.

The Gunners have activated the release clause in Leicester City ace Jamie Vardy's contract, according to The Guardian's Stuart James. Details of the price have yet to be revealed, but the Premier League champions are reportedly determined to hang on to Vardy, as expected.

Vardy's partnership with Foxes midfielder Riyad Mahrez was integral to Leicester City's historic run to the Premier League title. As Leicester marched to their first championship, Vardy collected a whopping 24 league goals, one shy of Tottenham's Harry Kane for the Golden Boot.

As Leicester prepare for their first-ever Champions League in the coming season, losing Vardy would be a major blow. On the flip side, Arsenal would finally be getting a player that can do what so many Gunners fans have begged for: score goals in bunches.

As mentioned, Leicester will fight tooth and nail to keep the England international at the King Power Stadium.

It's not a done deal by any means, and what this could mean for Frenchman Olivier Giroud's future at Arsenal remains to be seen. But for now, at least Arsenal fans can hold out hope that the Vardy Party could be coming to London.
