In a bid to help its survival chances, Palermo added defender Salvatore Aronica from Napoli on Wednesday.

Aronica arrives at Palermo after spending the past four years in Naples, and he will be expected to help bolster the defense of a team in Palermo that has won only three of its first 18 Serie A games this season.

"I may have left a great club like Napoli but I've come here to pull on an important shirt that I'll be proud to wear," Aronica said. "Palermo are not having a good time but the transfer window is open and the club is working hard to improve the squad.

"I will certainly make my own contribution and I can see a lot of enthusiasm in my new teammates."

The 35-year-old has appeared in five Serie A match this season for Napoli.
