Fayetteville, AR – Arkansas running back Knile Davis, the SEC's leading rusher last season, will miss the entire 2011 campaign after suffering an ankle injury during practice on Thursday.
The junior was hurt during a scrimmage and carted off the field. The extent of the injury was not revealed by Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino in a statement Friday morning.
"I am extremely disappointed for Knile," Petrino said. "He is a captain who was incredibly focused on the upcoming year. His leadership throughout the offseason was significant in the development of this team. Our athletic trainers and medical staff are the best in the country, and Knile's mental toughness will be an asset to him during the recovery process. I am fully confident in the mindset of our running back group and their ability to perform."
Davis ran for 1,322 yards last season, the fourth-highest single-season total in Arkansas history, and averaged 6.5 yards per carry with 13 touchdowns. He became a starter only midway through the year.
In two seasons for the Razorbacks, Davis has run for 1,485 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also has 21 receptions for 140 yards with one score.
