The Angels have scheduled a press conference on Tuesday, and though the reason behind it has yet to be revealed, a contract extension with ace Jered Weaver is the likely cause.

Joining Weaver at the 5:00 p.m. (et) announcement at Angel Stadium will be general manager Tony Reagins and manager Mike Scioscia.

The Los Angeles Times reported on Sunday that Weaver will ink a five-year, $85-million deal.

Weaver, 28, is in the midst of a career season, as he currently leads the American League in earned-run average (2.10), is tied for second in walks/hits per inning pitched and ranks third in wins (14) and batting average against (.207). He has also thrown four complete games and two shutouts.

The two-time All-Star has posted double-digit wins each season since breaking in with the Angels in 2006. He owns a 78-45 career record with a 3.30 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP.
