The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have signed shortstop Erick Aybar to a four-year contract extension, keeping him with the team through the 2016 season.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Angels gave Aybar a one-year deal in January, avoiding arbitration after the 28-year-old posted careers highs in home runs (10), runs scored (71), doubles (33), RBI (59) and stolen bases (30) in 2011. He also captured his first career Gold Glove and batted .279.

Aybar has hit .190 (8-for-42) with four RBI and four runs scored in 11 games this season -- his seventh with the club.
