Alcorn State sets 2012 schedule

Alcorn State remains without a head football coach, but it has a 2012 schedule.

The Braves are heading to spring practice under the direction of interim coach Todd McDaniel following the recent firing of Melvin Spears Jr.

As usual, the Braves will play nine Southwestern Athletic Conference games and four will be at home, against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Sept. 15), Alabama State (Sept. 29) on Homecoming, Southern (Oct. 6) and Texas Southern (Nov. 10).

Alcorn State will kick off the season on Sept. 1 against defending SWAC champion Grambling State at the Port City Classic in Shreveport, La.

The Braves also will travel to SWAC opponents Alabama A&M (Oct. 13), Prairie View A&M (Oct. 20), Mississippi Valley State (Nov. 3) and rival Jackson State (Nov. 17), with the latter game being the Capital City Classic.

In addition, the Braves will visit CAA power James Madison on Sept. 8 and FBS member Arkansas State on Sept. 22.

Last season, the Braves finished 2-8, including 1-8 in the SWAC.
