Utrecht, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) - Ajax Amsterdam missed an opportunity to widen its lead atop the Eredivisie table on Sunday after being forced to settle for a 1-1 draw with Utrecht at the Stadion Galgenwaard.

Ajax entered the contest holding a one-point lead over second-place Vitesse following Vitesse's draw with Feyenoord on Friday and opened the scoring through Daley Blind after 25 minutes.

But the capital club couldn't hold onto the lead as just seven minutes later, Utrecht found an equalizer through Steve De Ridder.

The result extends Ajax's unbeaten run in league play to an impressive 14 points, while the club moves two points clear of Vitesse at the top of the table. Utrecht, meanwhile, remains in 12th place on 25 points.

Elsewhere in the Eredivisie on Sunday, Michael Higdon scored five minutes into proceedings for NEC, but Deniz Turuc answered with a goal for Go Ahead Eagles just before the hour mark as the clubs settled for a 1-1 draw.

Luc Castaignos, Eghan Shadrach and Rasmus Bengtsson all fired home second-half goals to send Twente to a 3-1 victory over Cambuur Leeuwarden, while Evander Sno netted a brace in a 2-0 win for RKC Waalwijk against PSV Eindhoven.
