New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The majority of FCS selections taken in the NFL Draft occur on the third and final day, and the Miami Dolphins selected the first one on Saturday, Liberty cornerback Walt Aikens in the fourth round.
Aikens was picked 125th overall.
He had emerged since the end of his senior season with a strong Senior Bowl and pro day.
The emerging press cornerback has good size (6-foot-1, 205 pounds) and plays with physicality. He played his freshman season at Illinois before being dismissed and transferring to Liberty for his final three seasons.
As a senior last year, Aikens intercepted three passes and tied for the team high with 62 tackles.
"I'm a big, aggressive corner - 6-1, 205," Aikens told The Finsiders draft radiocast. "I can play press, I can play zone, I can pretty much do everything. I'm very versatile and I've got a passion for the game, so I hate losing. And my will to win overpowers all."
Also in the fourth round, the New York Jets selected Furman guard Dakota Dozier at No. 137 and the Baltimore Ravens took Coastal Carolina running back/fullback Lorenzo Taliaferro one pick later.
