The agent for New Orleans Saints veteran Anthony Spencer says the former Pro Bowl linebacker will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

Spencer, whose agent is Jordan Woy, was acquired as a free agent during the offseason. He spent his first eight seasons with Dallas, where he previously played under Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who held the same post with the Cowboys.

Spencer had his best season under Ryan in 2012, when he had 11 sacks. However, his 2013 season was all but wiped out by a knee injury.

Spencer has missed most of New Orleans' preseason after playing in the opening exhibition game, but the Saints have not discussed his injury.

NFL teams are required to cut their rosters from 90 players to 75 on Tuesday.
