After Rod Stewart's tears, Elton John latest pop icon to savor Celtic win over Barcelona
GLASGOW, Scotland – Rod Stewart wasn't the only pop icon to be overcome by emotion at Celtic's stunning 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon says he received a phone call from Elton John on Thursday, the day after the Scottish club's victory.
Lennon says the call came from "left field," adding "I thought my missus was winding me up but it just shows you the interest it has generated among a lot of people."
The singer-songwriter and pianist was once chairman of English side Watford.
Lennon says Friday "he was very knowledgeable about the game ... and it was great that he took time out to call me."
Celtic fan Stewart was caught on television crying at Parkhead after Wednesday's match.
