AC Milan, Inter play to draw in Derby della Madonnina

Milan, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Jeremy Menez and Joel Chukwuma Obi traded tallies on Sunday as AC Milan and Inter Milan played to a 1-1 stalemate at the San Siro in the latest installment of the Milan Derby.

Both clubs entered the match battling for Europa League positioning in the table as AC Milan entered the day seventh, while Inter is one point behind them in eighth place.

Form books usually go out the window when these two sides meet and it was a tense affair for the opening 20-plus minutes until AC Milan opened the scoring in the 23rd minute.

Stephan El Shaarawy did well to get free down the left flank before sending a nice ball into the middle of the park, where Menez got on the end of it and ripped it into the top right corner.

AC Milan took the one-goal lead into the intermission, but Inter drew level in the 61st minute as Obi corralled a loose ball in the penalty area, picked out the bottom right corner and fired it past AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez to put the sides on level terms.

The draw does little for either side in terms of moving up the Serie A table as AC Milan remains in seventh place with 18 points, while Inter drops to ninth place with 17 points.

Also in Serie A on Sunday, Napoli extended its unbeaten run across all competitions to six matches after battling Cagliari to a wild 3-3 draw at the Stadio San Paolo.

Gonzalo Higuain and Gorkhan Inler scored in the first half-hour to give Napoli a quick 2-0 lead, but Victor Ibarbo and Diego Farias netted for the visitors to pull it back to 2-2 just minutes into the second half.

Jonathan De Guzman's 62nd-minute tally gave Napoli the 3-2 lead, but they failed to hold it as Farias buried his second of the day to force the clubs to share the spoils.

Antonio Floro Flores scored three minutes from time to help Sassuolo claim a 1-0 win over Torino, while Stefano Lucchini scored on the hour mark, but it was canceled out by a Constantin Nica own goal as Cesena and Sampdoria played to a 1-1 draw.

Juan Cuadrado found the back of the net two minutes past the hour mark to lift Fiorentina to a 2-1 win over Hellas Verona, while Matias Vecino and Francesco Tavano scored for Empoli in a 2-0 victory over Parma.

In Sunday's final Serie A fixture, Antonio Di Natale scored on the stroke of halftime, but Ivan Radovanovic found an equalizer in the 74th minute as Udinese and Chievo played to a 1-1 draw.
