PERTH, Australia (AP) Australia scored four times in the opening half hour before going on to beat Bangladesh 5-0 on Thursday in an Asian confederation qualifying match for the 2018 World Cup.

The Asian Cup champions were never troubled against the world's No. 173-ranked side, opening the scoring after six minutes. A simple cutback from Massimo Luongo found Mathew Leckie in the box, and he swept the ball under the outstretched glove of Bangladesh goalkeeper Sahidul Alam.

Midfielder Tom Rogic added the next two goals in the eighth and 20th. Nathan Burns provided the fourth goal just before the half-hour mark, and Aaron Mooy made it 5-0 in the 61st minute with a long-range shot.

Australia's second consecutive win moved it to the top of its group.
