Donald Trump registered his highest support yet in a national poll out Monday that showed him leading the field with a commanding 41 percent.

The Monmouth University Poll comes as several other presidential primary polls show Texas Sen. Ted Cruz taking the lead in the crucial state of Iowa, and even coming close to Trump nationally.

But the Monmouth University survey shows Trump leaving the competition far behind.

While Trump leads with 41 percent in the poll, Cruz registers at just 14 percent.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson are behind them with 10 percent and 9 percent, respectively.

The leading candidates will face off for the last GOP primary debate of the year on Tuesday.

The poll was taken Dec. 10-13. The poll of 385 Republican voters had a margin of error of 5 percentage points.
