Two question topics dominated on “Ask Major”: the Supreme Court and the economy.
Many of you were perplexed about the President’s decision to express his disappointment with last week’s Supreme Court’s decision regarding campaign contributions. We got a lot of questions asking if it was appropriate. Linda writes, “I was most upset when Obama took on the court’s decision, [I] thought it was very out of line.”
On the economy, several of you wanted to know why the President can’t begin his spending freeze immediately. Jacob asked, “How can the government create jobs and not increase taxes?” And Brian writes that he is curious what the President’s job bill proposal will cost American taxpayers. Dave’s question echoed the concerns of many of our readers, “why have this president and congress waited a year to make jobs a priority?”
On health care, the burning question was whether or not the President is being realistic in asserting that he can push forward with reform, despite the split in Congress.
And on the national security front, it wasn’t so much what the President said that prompted your questions, as it was what the President didn’t say. Tjmo7 asks, “Did I miss the issue of national security?” Jim wants to know why the President says “we will do what it takes to defeat the enemy “ but didn’t bring up the upcoming trial of 9/11 conspirators in New York City or the handling of the Christmas Day bomber.
