President and Mrs. Obama have accepted Queen Elizabeth's invitation and are heading to the U.K. in the Spring, but it's not for what you might think. The Obama's trip will be a month shy of that famous royal union, which takes place on April 29th (as if you didn't know).

"This trip will be President Obama's first European state visit," President Obama's Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters Thursday, "a sign of the strength of the special relationship between our two countries and of the United States' enduring commitment to its European and NATO allies and partners."

While Mr. Obama has been to Europe more than once as president, none of them involved the pomp and circumstance of a state visit.

The meeting will not be the first between the Obamas and the royals. Past encounters have revealed an affection between the first lady and the Queen and the president has even given the Queen an iPod.The first couple will be in England from May 24 through May 26.

The White House is mum so far on whether or not daughters Sasha and Malia will tag along.
