President Obama will make his first foreign trip since Inauguration Day to Canada, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Wednesday.

Gibbs said Obama will travel to Canada Feb. 19 to meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

"Canada is a vitally important ally and the president looks forward to the opportunity to speak with Prime Minister Harper, and visit our neighbor to the north," Gibbs said.

Obama has reached out to a host of leaders around the world since taking office, most recently calling South African President Kgalema Motlanthe.
