At a ceremony formally installing Loretta Lynch as attorney general Wednesday, President Obama spoke about Lynch's formative years growing up in segregated Greensboro, N.C., the strong influence of her parents who taught her to "speak up for what's right," and her rapid career ascension at the Justice Department where she ultimately became U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

Even before the ceremony, Lynch "hit the ground running" after her Senate confirmation in late April, Obama said, having launched an investigation into police tactics at the Baltimore Police Department in the wake of Freddie Gray's death and having charged high-ranking current and former FIFA officials for their alleged role in a bribery scandal.

"The American people can have no better advocate for equality under the law, no greater partners to securing justice for all than our attorney general, Loretta Lynch," Obama said.
