Obama Budget Has Money for Proposed South Dakota State Park

U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson says the Obama administration's budget includes about $2.7 million to help South Dakota buy 300 acres from a private landowner to create a state park at the Blood Run National Historic Site southeast of Sioux Falls.

The South Dakota Democrat says funding still must be approved by Congress.

Blood Run takes its name from the legend of a battle between American Indian tribes that left the water of a creek red from blood. The site has burial mounds, refuse pits and artifacts.

The state wants to add to 200 acres it bought at the 3,000-acre site in 1995 and create a state park.
