NRCC Gets Into Upstate New York Congressional Race

The campaign arm of the House GOP is getting involved in the increasingly competitive race to fill the vacant New York 26th district seat.

Republican Jane Corwin is facing Democrat Kathy Hochul in the special election to replace Republican Rep. Chris Lee who resigned earlier this year after a Craigslist photo scandal.

According to an official from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), the group's Independent Expenditure Committee, which focuses on advertising and polling, has been authorized to spend money in the race. At this point, there are no firm plans for the campaign but the move makes funds available.

On Tuesday, a Democratic official told Fox News the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee plans to spend $250,000 on ads for Hochul in traditionally Republican upstate New York district.

The special election to fill the empty seat will be held on May 24th.
