House Minority Leader John Boehner on Sunday denied having any knowledge of a plea deal for embattled Rep. Charles Rangel that Republicans reportedly rejected.
Politico.com and The New York Daily News reported over the weekend that Rangel told Harlem political leaders that he had signed a plea deal regarding the 13 ethics violations he faces.
According to the reports, Republicans did not accept the arrangement -- Rangel is expected to instead face a trial in the ethics case.
But Boehner, in an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press," said he would have "no idea" what goes on between Rangel and the bipartisan members of the House ethics committee.
"Under the rules of the House, the ethics committee proceedings are private," Boehner said.
Politico.com reported that Rangel did not want to admit to personal gain or intentional wrongdoing from the alleged charges, which deal with tax and disclosure violations.
