The House has voted to authorize FBI Director Robert Mueller to keep his job for up to two more years.

The voice vote Monday sent the legislation to the president.

One more step is needed. President Barack Obama will send Mueller's nomination to the Senate, where leaders of both parties have promised a vote by Aug. 2. That's the date Mueller's 10-year term expires.

Supporters of the extension said it is important to maintain continuity of leadership at the FBI to fight terrorism.
