Congressional Calendar July 2, 2010

The Senate adjourned for its July 4th recess Thursday to allow members to attend a memorial service in Charleston, West Virginia for the late Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W. Va. That ceremony gets underway at 11:30 a.m. ET, and will feature remarks from President Obama and Vice President Biden.

The Joint Economic Committee holds a hearing at 9:30 a.m. ET to examine the June’s employment numbers. Forecasters predict that the economy will lose between 100-150,000 jobs, mostly due to the end of short term Census positions.

Congress will miss a presidential deadline for a supplemental funding bill for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Obama had hoped to have a bill on his desk to sign by July 4th. We expect plenty of reaction on the issue from both sides of the aisle.
