Just got off the phone with Rep. Michele Bachman (R-MN) who called to discuss her candidacy to chair the House GOP Conference.

Bachmann says that "people believe in me" and "says she can "be a bridge to the conservative base."

"They want to know they have someone they can trust to take on leadership," Bachmann said.

More:

"We didn't gain the majority because of the great things Republicans were doing," Bachmann added.

Bachmann founded the Tea Party Caucus in Congress and claims she helped about 50 House GOP freshmen get elected.

She says conservatives would need to "have confidene in leadership or a voice."

On the candidacy of Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX), she says it's good to have competition.
