Fri, 17 Apr 2009 21:08:22 +0000 – It is interesting that Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) is in a contest with Representative Patrick Kennedy (D-Rhode Island) to see who has the least contributors from their state or district. It was only as short time ago that I asked Congressman Kennedy about some kind of an event outside his district and I got gently reminded that he focused solely on his district. It is true that Congressman Kennedy has had his own personal troubles in recent years but Senator Dodd has not.
The public is often very, very forgiving to their members of Congress if they feel that they know them and that their representative is concerned about them and their home state. As soon as they get "too big for their britches" and they are not on a first name basis in the neighborhood coffee shop they risk losing their precious seat. Former Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill said "all politics is local". Seems like Senator Dodd needs to relearn that lesson.
